1998 - 2000: Consultant, Telecommuter for Lexiquest Inc. (split in 2001 into SPSS and Lingway) |
|
Developed system software for information retrieval: Connection between the Lexiquest product and the search engine Microsoft Index Server: Transformation of the Lexiquest output to the Index Server boolean query via tree manipulations and integration into Index Server and a Web demonstration. Lexiquest product realizes a lexical, syntactical and semantic parsing of a query to produce a list of weighted phrases representing this query and uses lexical and semantic databases to add new related phrases. Technologies: Web server side technology (ISAPI, ASP, CGI), JavaScript, Windows NT. Developed system software for linguistic dictionary management: Format translations: dictionaries from XML format to
Lexiquest optimized format, sentences syntactical representations from object
format to tree format. Technologies: Perl, XML, C++. |

1985 -1997: Lexiquest, France(split in 2001 into SPSS and Lingway) |
|
96-97: Information retrieval sub-project leader Responsible (specification, software development) for the part of the information retrieval product that builds from a request in natural language an optimized Boolean query for an intranet search engine. The objective was to make an efficient product by the use of linguistic and semantic understanding, and knowledge base according to the search engine limits. The tool consists mainly of tree manipulation managed by external rules developed by linguists. Technologies: UNIX, Windows NT, C, client/server, Topic, Fulcrum, AltaVista, ClearCase. 95-96: Controlled language project leader Responsible for the evaluation of the functional potential of a controlled language checker product (in accordance with the vocabulary and syntactical forms described by a dictionary and an external set of rules). 94-95: Translation project leader Responsible for the software and the support of the Lexiquest translation team. The objective was to increase the productivity, the homogeneity and the quality of the translations by introducing automatic translation, knowledge management, corpus study. 92-93: Information retrieval projects leader Responsible for customer projects for access, in natural language, to activity and product directories. The clients were INSEE (French national economic statistics organization), France Telecom (French phone company), Saritel (Italian phone company). I was responsible for the functional specification, linguistic and software development, installation, financial and customer follow-up. Technologies: UNIX, C, Oracle, Merise. 87-92: Linguistic tool leader, member of the management team Responsible for all common tools and software used by the linguistic and development teams: lexical and syntactical parser, knowledge base manager. The syntactical parser is mainly a pattern matching program. Its challenge was to be directed by a set of external rules written by linguists and to be very efficient. It is still in use in operational applications. Responsible for the technical support. Initiate a quality and methodology program. Technologies: Solaris, C, C++, Motif, Yacc. 85-87: Software engineer Specified and developed an automatic translator from a large subset of PL1 to C. This LL parser translated the Lexiquest knowledge manager and allowed the company to upgrade all its software development from PL1 to C easily. |
